Itinerary: Lares to yanahuara 3 days and 2 nights


After an early departure from Cusco you will be driven to Calca, and then climb to the  highest point of this road at  4265 meters, and from trere we will be able to see the mountains of Sawasiray and pitusiray before desending into the warm valley of Lares at an altitude of 3207 meters, this is a typical colonial village with a church, a main plaza and narrow streets. there we will meet your porters and the trek begins. Our trail ascends towards the community of Huacawasi (3780 m), a charming litle  commnity of small houses built from mud brick and thatch. We will walk for approximately for to five hours. Campsite


leaving in thr early morning we make a brief ascent to the Huahuaqasa pass at 4398 meters before descending to Aruraycocha and Millpo lakes which are formed by the melt waters of the Pumahuanca and Capacsaya snow peaks. This is a spectacular days trekking, through the Urubamba Mountain Range, you will have ample opportunity to spot a number of Andean birds, including condors. Campsite 


We descend towards the farmers community of Yanahuara and its agreeable climate at an altitude of 9931 ft. The tiny hamlet of Yanahuara is located in the Urubamba Valley, which for the Incas was the fertile Sacred Valley. Nowadays it is the breadbasket  of Cusco, with its terraced slopes seeded with corn and watered by the glaciers of the  great snow peaks and the river, which they worshipped as the “Willkamayu” or “Holy River”.Then late in the afternoon we go back to Cusco.

We advice to bring

  • A good      sleeping bag (it can be hired in our office)
  • day      pack for daily items and camera
  • Small      day pak for your gear. (If you don´t have, we will provide one).
  • Warm      jacket for cool evenings, wool sweaters, long pants, light cotton shirt      and T-shirts. Hat      with brim.
  • Wool or flannel shirt.
  • Comfortable      walking shoes (well- broken in)
  • Rain      jacket or rain poncho.
  • Canteen      or plastic water bottle (plastic bottles with water you can buy here).
  • Flashlight with extra bateries.
  • Binoculars,      (it`s a good opportunity to see highland birds) camera and film.
  • Swimming suit,
